Emergency Shelter

Every day of the year, homeless individuals find relief from the elements and a safe, affirming space at Catalyst Rescue Mission. We provide fresh coffee, hot showers, a place for our clients to receive personal mail and phone calls, and hygiene products. This is just the beginning.

Those who seek emergency shelter at Catalyst are encouraged to take the next step on the road to permanent housing. Job and housing counselors connect our clients to new opportunities, help them identify barriers to self-sufficiency, and connect them to our case management team as they move forward.

Case Management

Our case manager is hard at work helping our clients identify the roots of their homelessness. By working individually with our clients, they establish goals together so our clients leave prepared and empowered to live productively and independently.

Catalyst serves as a hub for partner agencies like the Jeffersonville Township Trustee, Community Action of Southern Indiana, Exit 0, New Albany Township Trustee, Lifespring, Wellstone, New Albany Housing Authority, Jeffersonville Housing Authority, Clark Memorial Hospital, Hope Southern Indiana, and others who can help connect our clients with the services in our community.

Life Skills

Life skills are the skills that many people take for granted; such as managing money, shopping, cooking, running a home, and maintaining social networks. They are essential for living independently. Some people experiencing homelessness do not have all of these skills, either because they never acquired them or because they lost them through extended periods of homelessness. Helping those experiencing homelessness acquire life skills can help them move on from homelessness and resettle into the community. Life skills training is different from support, help or assistance in that the aim is to promote self-sufficiency.

At Catalyst, we offer two basic life skills training modules. The first is called Holistic Hardware, which offers core life skills through a biblical model. The second is called Escaping Your Prison Mind, which offers core life skills through the 12-step process.

Housing

Our mission at Catalyst is to identify barriers to housing and to eliminate them. This means that our case manager will be working with our clients on getting identification cards, birth certificates, and social security cards. Our goal is to work through past evictions and help our clients pay the debts they owe. This means obtaining disability, SSI, a part-time job, or a full-time job is a must.

Catalyst will work with potential landlords to match our clients with the housing options that are best for them. Through our partnerships with the New Albany Housing Authority and Jeffersonville Housing Authority, we seek housing permanency for all our clients.
